ROAD SAFETY

ROAD SAFETY

Elsie Mills, authoress of the Tufty stories, invented a very likeable squirrel and friends that young mums could read about to their children from an early age. They were all about the dangers of traffic and Road Safety.

When I became interested in the subject I had an idea of a Tufty puppet spreading the word to the playgroup and infants’ age groups.

In my presentation the Tufty glove puppet I made ‘showed’ the children one safe place to cross the roads by, the Pedestrian Crossing. It was very visual, instructive and sometimes funny.

I was encouraged to increase the age range of my presentation by the many Road Safety Officers who booked me to work in their areas, and eventually I tailored shows specially for Playgroups, Infant and Junior Schools and Pensioner Clubs. These were the important ages to push the message of taking special care.
