My Introduction to Painting

I was very lucky with head teachers when at school. Mr. Hugget allowed a child that showed artistic talent to paint all day in the school hall. A good effort enabled a child to have first pick from a bowl of fruit that could have been the subject that day. Every child got something even if it was only a few nuts. What a man.

Another, Mr. Keats, showed us a drawing an artistic friend of his had made from his name. I diligently copied and expanded my own way of doing this over the years, embellishing the hand written name into a face. I call them Face Names.

I’ve painted in most mediums and used my drawing skills in the theatre, clubs, schools and on TV. My full-size Impressionist copies in oils are hired out for decor. I've also sold a few in the process.

I realised very early on that I could never earn a living from just picture painting so to pay my way I’ve also had to be a builder, woodworker, sculptor, cartoonist, clown, entertainer and inventor.

Read all about it in my book.
